The Magus Class, Playtest 3

Presented here is the third playtest of the Magus class for 5.5e. This playtest includes all six planned subclasses for the Magus’ initial release. If you haven’t been following the class’s development, here’s a quick description of the class.

The Magus is a half-caster class with three core components.

  • Martial and Mystic Mastery. Your combat style blends spells and strikes. You can use your Mystic Mark feature to improve your defense or enhance your attacks and at 5th level your Sword and Sorcery feature lets you effortlessly utilize weapon attacks and spells.

  • More Magic. Although the Magus is a half-caster, it may be more accurate to think of it as a two-thirds caster. It regains expended spell slots using its Magical Recovery and Sigil Surge features.

  • Defining Subclasses. Each Magus subclass greatly expands your spell list as well as enhances your core class features, allowing for dramatically different mechanical and thematic flavors based on your subclass choice.
