Never heard of the Pugilist? Here’s the pitch!

Pugilists live a rough and tumble life that leaves them full of determination and recklessness, either from overconfidence or desperation. In a fight, they channel this strength of character to dig deep and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, even when outarmed and outnumbered. Even when they ultimately fail, Pugilists go down swinging.

The Pugilist is a martial class with three defining characteristics:

  • Hard to Kill. Pugilists may be easy to hit but they’re hard to take down. Using their Moxie ability Brace Up and features like Bloodied but Unbowed, the Pugilist can take a licking and keep on ticking.

  • Backalley Brawler. Pugilists fight to win at any costs. They wield broken bottles and overturned barstools with all the ferocity and danger as a Fighter with a sword. Most Pugilists, however, prefer to fight unarmed where they can wear down their foes with a barrage of punches and pushes.

  • Classic Underdog. Pugilists fight their hardest when their backs are against the wall. Their Bloodied but Unbowed feature allows them to regain Moxie, a critical combat resource, and gain Temporary Hit Points. At higher levels, Down but Not Out lets them hit harder when they’re Bloodied than they ever could when they are in top form.
